MR CHARLIE BENEFIT SHOW FEB. 6
A few weeks ago our friend Charlie Frazier suffered a stroke that has seriously impaired his vision. Most people know him as "Mr. Charlie", blues DJ on WIZN 106.7, band leader of Blues For Breakfast, and producer of the Best of the Green Mountain Blues compilation CDs that benefit Camp Ta-Kum-Ta for kids living with cancer. Greg Pettis, Manager of the Jalapeno Bros., and Lee Diamond, Manager of the Seth Yacovone Band have teamed to create a benefit at Higher Ground that will help raise money to cover Mr. Charlie's medical expenses. Join the JALAPENO BROTHERS (http://jalapenobros.tripod.com/), the JOHN TOWER GROUP, the SETH YACOVONE BAND (http://www.sethyac.com/), DR. JONES, JIM BRANCA (http://www.moonfarmproductions.com/), NOBBY REED (http://www.nobbyreed.com), DAVE KELLER (http://www.davekeller.com/), BILL SCHAFER BAND, LIQUID DEAD, old and current members of BLUES FOR BREAKFAST (http://bluesforbreakfast.bigheavyworld.com/) and more at Higher Ground on Wednesday February 6 for the giant jam session benefit show. Admission is an $8 donation (all proceeds benefit Mr. Charlie) and by Mr. Charlie's doctor's orders it's a NON-SMOKING SHOW. For more information contact Lee at (802) 899-1847, sethyac@together.net or Greg at (802) 860-0167. The benefit show is sponsored by WIZN 106.7, Magic Hat, and Higher Ground. Donations can also be sent to P.O. Box 271, Burlington, VT 05402 (make checks to 'Charlie Frazier').

VERMONT JAZZ ENSEMBLE RELEASES 25TH ANNIVERSARY CD
Congrats to the VERMONT JAZZ ENSEMBLE (http://www.vermontjazzensemble.com) for 25 years of music and for the release of "25 Years in the Moonlight", the 17-member big band's commemorative CD benefiting Vermont All State Music Scholarships. For more info contact Rich Davidian, Musical Director, SonicMirag@aol.com.
THE BURLINGTON BUZZSAW: COLLEGE RADIO CD MAILING
Burlington-area bands take note: Big Heavy will be shredding the U.S. with the BURLINGTON BUZZSAW, a mailing of two hundred high-RPM boxes of Burlington CDs to nationwide college stations. It's a phat D.I.Y. promotion: By pulling together a bunch of local titles we're making it possible for everyone to help represent our scene to the stations that most need to hear about it. The stations are from lists of Gavin and CMJ reporters (we don't plan to waste anybody's time or money), and we think we're making it wicked cheap to get your music out there by asking for $1/disc to be included. If you're into it and want to ride this rocket call Jim at (802) 865-1140. We'll be gathering CDs at the BHW office until the boxes are full, so get in touch in a hurry if you're interested.
BHW BANDGUIDE BLOWS UP LARGE
Friends of Big Heavy World have long been well-aware of the Burlington-area band guide we've maintained at http://www.bigheavyworld.com since 1996. Now due to popular demand from Southern Vermont and made possible with backend programming by Scully Interactive (http://www.scullyinteractive.com), we are RE-launching it as a state-wide monsterpiece of Vermont band information. All Vermont-based musicians are welcomed now to use the online form to get us their contact and musical style info to publish in this very big, very heavy directory. Check it at http://www.bigheavyworld.com/bandguide.php.
FIRST NIGHT @ MEMORIAL PICS GOING....UP!
BHW photo-commander Joe Beaulieu is losing sleep (and sweat) busting to get nearly 400 photos of ten bands at the Big Heavy Buzz Fest onto the site. See what's coming along at http://www.bigheavyworld.com/paparazzi.html.
BHW THANKS
Thanks this time around to the Big Heavy Buzz Fest sponsors who came together to make a great show happen and to First Night for inviting us to be a part of it all. Thanks from Jim to BHW's volunteer crew for blowing his mind with the work they did before and during the First Night show. To STEVE LEMCKE for counting BHW's 242 Main benefit compilation '242.01' among his top-ten album picks of 2001. To JACK O'BRIEN for a loan that pulled our ass out of a telephone bill-paying fire. Thanks to ESTHER, our landlord, for being above and beyond the call-of-cool (she knows what we're talking about!). Thanks to Rockin' Daddy Paul Hislop (http://www.thebluefox.com) for the update to our free guide to VT Record Stores. And thanks to everybody who has supported Big Heavy World or thought a nice thought about us in 2001. Best wishes in 2002 to the friends we have and the friends we haven't met yet.
