LIVE HIP HOP W/OPEN MIC KICKS OFF ALL-AGES SHOWS AT RED SQUARE
Since we're freaks for trying something different we've got some ALL AGES Saturdays lined up at Red Square, the funky bar across from City Hall where The Black List has been meeting to plot the creation of all-ages show opportunities in Burlington. SATURDAY DECEMBER 22 Andy Vick (The Dakota) brings LIVE HIP HOP - THE ELEMENTRIX and a FREESTYLE OPEN MIC to the place, ALL AGES, 4-6PM. Looking down the road we've got heavy metal spoken word from DUNCAN WILDER JOHNSON performing 2/16, 4-6PM, ALL AGES. Did you catch that ALL AGES part? Just checking.

BIGHEAVYBUZZFEST: GIANT ALL-AGES NEW YEAR'S ROCKOUT AT MEMORIAL:
Big Heavy World, 242 Main (http://www.monsterfestvt.com/242main.html), 99.9 The Buzz (http://www.999thebuzz.com), and OVX (Our Voices xposed, http://www.ovx.org) have joined forces to present one of First Night Burlington's hardest rocking events ever - a giant local noizefest cramming eight bands into every floor of Memorial Auditorium for your ALL AGES New Year's pleasure! Supersounds DJs (http://www.supersounds.com) slide into the 242 Main space to fire up a radio-hits dance party; 242 Main presents their jaw-cracking showcase in the Annex with RIVER CITY REBELS (http://www.rivercityrebels.com), DYSFUNKSHUN (http://www.dysfunkshun.com), THE STATIC AGE (http://www.thestaticage.com), SHIPWRECK (http://www.shipwreckmusic.com/), and BLIND LUCK (http://www.blindluckmusic.com); and Big Heavy World drags ORBIT (http://www.orbitband.com), ZOLA TURN (http://www.zolaturn.com), JAMES KOCHALKA SUPERSTAR (http://indyworld.com/kochalka), and THE BAZOOKAS (http://www.members.aol.com/thebazookas) to Memorial's Main Stage for an altpop frosting on this three-tiered tasty treat. Admission is with a First Night button - $13, in stores and banks all over town, and online at the First Night Burlington site: http://www.firstnightburlington.com. You might even win one if you listen to 99.9 The Buzz (which you'll be doing every Sunday at 9:30pm from now on anyway, 'cause that's when Kevin Murrihy's Homebrew Show spins music from our local music family and Montreal's too). The BIGHEAVYBUZZFEST is ALL AGES and substance-free. Details at www.firstnightburlington.com! BIGHEAVYBUZZFEST is also supported by Pepsi, UPN 39 (http://www.wbvt.com), and Advance Music (http://www.advancemusicvt.com/).

NEW PAPARAZZI AT BHW
BHW Crewguy Joe Beaulieu has been shoveling paparazzi onto the site. New photos from March, August, November, and December live shows are up. Locals: The Dakota, River City Rebels, gnutar, Five Seconds Expired, Dysfunkshun, My Revenge and out-of-state friends The Icarus Line (Los Angeles), Cave In (Boston), Bane (MA), and A Perfect Salesman (Plattsburgh) pics for your pleasure. More in the pipe. Got pics you want us to publish and credit? Email Joe at notazgoodazyou@aol.com.

BANDS: DOWNLOAD FREE VT RECORD STORE DIRECTORY
As an effort to grease the slide for local bands the Big Heavy crew has pulled together a free downloadable guide of record stores in Vermont. Grab the Adobe PDF at http://www.bigheavyworld.com/downloads/vtrecordstores.pdf. It notes which ones take consignment and carry local music, hopefully making this kind of thing less of a chore for you. Props to intern Andy Vick and crewgrrl Sandra McKernan for the work they put into it. (It's viewable with the free Adobe Acrobat viewer from http://www.adobe.com).

CONGRATS TO COMMON GROUND 'ZINE
Congrats to Derek McIntire for launching Common Ground, a mainly hardcore/punk rag with a Boston-Vermont focus: http://www.envy.nu/commonground. February 1 issue has interviews with River City Rebels, Strife, Nientara, more. Want to do interviews or send in reviews? Email Derek at commongroundzine@yahoo.com

BHW THANKS
Thanks to THE SCAMS, GNUTAR (http://www.gnutar.com), THE REAGANOMICS, & KILLING YARD who played last Friday at The Space to benefit BHW. Wicked fun show, brought Rutland and Burlington a little closer together too. Thanks to Mark Bock for organizing it, and for Jesse "Frostbite Builds Character" Krembs for soldiering the door. The Space crew were incredibly good to us, too :) (Thanks Michelle, Caroline, Norm, & Ivan!). Thanks to Jason Baker for fixing the mouse on one of our PCs, and to Eric Smith for lighting one of our flatliners up with UNIX. Special thanks to Leo from Jesse for his help during the Music2Fight Cancer benefit on December 1. Thanks to Ari "Godfather" Bolles and her street team goons for getting the Big Heavy Buzz Fest Posters out there.
