Big Heavy World's collection of Vermont-made music is a little-known public listening library. We're just at the beginning of seeking funding to turn our 350+ title album collection into a searchable relational database (we even know what a relational database is...), but meanwhile the secret's sorta out that anybody can come in, hang out in indie luxe at the Big Heavy World crib, and listen to any of it. For a few years we've had a string of independent film producers cruising through; now it's your turn. If you're into Vermont's music history or just feeling dumb about a Vermont artist or album, come kick back and give them a spin. Call 802.865.1140 or email redshift@bigheavyworld.net to make an evening appointment. The office is run by volunteers with, shall we say, "eccentric" hours so making an appointment means someone will actually be here to set you up with headphones, a computer, and access to our humble conservatory. If you are interested in helping us build the collection for the sake of our state's cultural history and to prevent your favorite local rockers, folkies, or musical mayhem-makers from fading when they retire or or leave old band names behind, please contribute to the project. We'd gratefully accept donations of CDs, tapes, or vinyl of Vermont artist releases. Reference the catalog below to figure if we have a title, and if we don't have it we'd be especially eager to welcome it to the collection. Contact Jim at 802.865.1140 or redshift@bigheavyworld.net, or just mail your box'o'luv to BHW, P.O. Box 428, Burlington, VT 06504-0428.
